Founded by Royal Charter in 1552, Shrewsbury is a leading independent co-educational boarding and day school with a growing family of overseas schools and a world-class reputation for all-round excellence. Situated on a beautiful 110-acre site in the heart of Shrewsbury, Shropshire, the School provides a highly distinctive whole person education for some 840 pupils aged 13-18. In 2019, Packwood a leading co-educational day and boarding prep school for pupils aged 4-13 became part of the Shrewsbury family of Schools. An ambitious £21M programme of new build and refurbishment over the last 5 years means that facilities are outstanding. With nearly 1,100 pupils across the two schools employing over 500 staff and a turnover of £38M, Shrewsbury is a substantial, complex and thriving organisation set on further growth.

The Governors and Headmaster seek to appoint a highly motivated, financially astute and commercially driven Chief Operating Officer (COO). Building upon Shrewsbury’s recent successful growth, the candidate will play a pivotal role in its strategic development, shaping and delivering the financial strategy to ensure both schools’ long-term success. With responsibility for finance, estates, operations and trading activities, candidates will be able to demonstrate proven ability in executive leadership and financial control, strategic planning and operational delivery within large complex organisations.

Reporting to the Headmaster, the COO will lead a team of 175 staff. As a critical member of the Leadership Team, they will deliver and manage change to ensure Shrewsbury's financial and commercial success. They will be a collaborative senior leader, a strategic and creative thinker with strong financial and commercial acumen, first-rate analytical and business skills and finely tuned risk antennae. An outstanding communicator, the COO will inspire, motivate and operate at pace.

Prior experience in the education sector is not a prerequisite and applications are encouraged from candidates with commercial, charitable, private-sector and public-sector backgrounds. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate empathy with independent education and commitment to Shrewsbury’s ethos and educational philosophy.

Shrewsbury School seeks to appoint a Head of Girls’ Cricket to coach cricket across the School with affect from November 2024, or January 2025 by agreement.  We are looking for applicants with a specialism in coaching Cricket.

Our pupils are talented, so applications from candidates with a high level of playing or coaching experience will be welcomed. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute fully to boarding school life.

The ability to coach and contribute to Michaelmas/Lent term sports other than Cricket would be advantageous.

Cleaning Assistant

Cleaning Assistant

We are looking to recruit a Cleaning Assistant who is passionate about delivering an excellent cleaning service.  Working in our Boarding Houses, you will ensure that all areas are kept in a hygienic condition, ensuring a very high standard at all times.

The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a friendly and supportive environment, have an eye for detail with excellent standards of cleaning.  Previous cleaning or work experience in a similar role would be an advantage, however full training will be given.

This role is 20 hours per week, working 9am to 1pm, Monday to Friday, with rotational Saturdays, term-time working plus 3 weeks + 1 days during the school holidays. 

The annualised salary is £9,197.76, based on a starting hourly rate of pay will be £11.44 per hour.  The hourly rate of pay will increase to £11.54 per hour, following a satisfactory 6-month probationary review.

15 hours per week, term-time plus 3 weeks, Monday to Friday, 9.00am - 12.00pm, with rotational Saturdays.

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled Personal Assistant to provide outstanding professional administrative, secretarial, and organisational support to the Headmaster.  

This is a diverse and rewarding role that requires a highly organised, trustworthy individual with a can-do attitude and a calm disposition.  The successful applicant will be a pro-active solution-finder and accomplished communicator, with strong professional values and skills in handling confidential information with discretion and professionalism. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • All-round Personal Assistance for the Headmaster.
  • Dynamic diary and calendar management.
  • Call handling and welcoming visitors, parents, and staff.
  • Meeting facilitation including composing agendas and occasional minute-taking.
  • Performing a range highly confidential administrative duties relating to the daily running and strategic development of Packwood Haugh School.
  • Composition, editing, review and handling of a wide range of correspondence.
  • Preparation of reports, papers, and presentations.
  • To oversee the Headmaster’s travel arrangements for UK and overseas trips, and handling expenses.
  • Other secretarial duties as required.

Essential Qualities:

  • Educated to A-Level or equivalent.
  • Demonstrable experience as a professional PA or similar.
  • Highly adaptable and flexible, with initiative and the ability to thrive under pressure.
  • Excellent at building rapport and positive relationships with a wide range of people.
  • Strong typist and pride yourself on your excellent typing skills. At least 50 wpm plus. 
  • Excellent written and oral English with attention to detail.
  • Fully conversant in Microsoft Office with a formal ICT qualification such as ECDL, NVQ or equivalent experience and confidence.
  • Sympathy with the aims and activities of a thriving leading prep school.

What We’re Looking For:
