‘Everest Needs You, Mr Irvine!’  – a talk by Julie Summers, 6.30pm on Saturday 11th October in the Shrewsbury School Yale Boathouse
The extraordinary life of Sandy Irvine, Old Salopian and the youngest member of the ill-fated 1924 Mount Everest expedition, is the subject of a fascinating and beautifully illustrated talk by Julie Summers, author, broadcaster and Irvine’s great-niece and biographer. Tickets are still available, price £10 (free for Shrewsbury School pupils and staff) - please email Miriam Walton at mwalton@shrewsbury.org.uk to reserve a ticket and pay on the door.


An Evening with John Ngugi - 7.30pm on Wednesday 15th October in the Ashton Theatre
Former Olympic gold medallist and five-time World Cross-Country Champion John Ngugi arrives in Shrewsbury tomorrow (Saturday) and will be spending next week as the Hunt's Coach-in-Residence.  As part of his visit, we will be hosting  'An Evening with John Ngugi'  on Wednesday 15th October, when John will chat to Peter Middleton about his astonishing life and career and answer questions from the audience. Tickets are free (please reserve in advance) and everyone is welcome. See 'Forthcoming Events' below for more details.


Half-term holiday activities and sports courses
A number of courses and activities for children take place at the School outside term time. During the October half-term holiday, we are running courses for boys and girls aged between 7 and 13 years in cricket, tennis, trampolining, fencing, archery, swimming and canoeing. Open Day for 13+ and 14+ entry in 2015
Our next Open Day takes place on Saturday 8th November. Places are still available - please spread the word to anyone who may be interested in joining the Third or Fourth Form in 2015. To book a place, please email admissions@shrewsbury.org.uk
