Notices to Parents and Guardians

It was lovely to see so many families at Speech Day on Saturday and we hope that you all had a wonderful day.  To all those for whom that Speech Day was their last - pupils, parents and members of staff - we send our very best wishes. Please keep in touch with the School and the Salopian Club and remember that once a Salopian, always a Salopian - and that you will always be welcome back.

Salopian Week and Speech Day photos

All photographs taken by Kidz in Focus during the Inter-House Athletics, the Eve of Speech Day Concert and the Leavers' Ball are now available to view and to purchase on the Kidz in Focus website, together with a group photo of all the Prizewinners and photos taken earlier in the year of Netball and Football. Some additional photos taken during Speech Day will be uploaded soon. The codes required to access the photos are included in the email sent to all parents and guardians with the link to this eNewsletter.

Please visit kidzinfocus.co.uk/drama-dance and select 'Salopian Week Shrewsbury School'. Enter the Part A and Part B access codes supplied and then click 'authenticate' to view the galleries. The deadline for orders is Monday 22nd July 2019.

Medic Malawi 2020

The next joint Shrewsbury School / Shewsy trip to Malawi in July 2020 has been launched to next year's Fifth and Lower Sixth Forms (see Latest News item below). This is a tremendous opportunity, but places are limited. Pupils who are interested have been asked to write an email of application to Mrs Temple (lrt@shrewsbury.org.uk) which explains why they want to go and what they have done to show their enthusiasm.

The deadline for expressions of interest is Friday 27th September 2019.

'Symphonic Sundays'

Next term we will be launching a new Shrewsbury Children's Orchestra to help support and nurture talented young musicians in the local area.  The Orchestra will meet on a series of 'Symphonic Sunday' afternoons to learn and play an exciting repertoire of music. The sessions are entirely free of charge and will be led by Director of Music John Moore and Assistant DIrector of Music Maria McKenzie, with specialist input from other professional musicians. The only requirement is that children have achieved a standard of Grade 3 or above in their instrument.

More details and an online application form can be found in the Music section of the Shrewsbury School website: Symphonic Sundays. Please spread the word among anyone you feel may be interested.

Shrewsbury Half-Marathon: Calling all parents and Old Salopians!

Now in its seventh year, the Shrewsbury Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 6th October 2019. Over the past six years, hundreds of runners from the Shrewsbury School community have taken part in the race, whether pupils, teaching staff, support staff, OS or parents. In the 2018 race, a record number of 63 Shrewsbury School runners ran the race, raising an incredible £19,000 in the process. This year we will be focusing our fundraising efforts on the Andrew Grene Foundation and Medic Malawi.

You can enter the event through the following link: https://www.shrewsburyhalf.co.uk/. When entering, add ‘Shrewsbury School’ as the team name, and once registered, please let Kate Evason know so we can keep track of entries and put together a participants database (marketing@shrewsbury.org.uk). When you contact Kate, please let her know your vest size (XS/S/M/L/XL). We’ll need to know final numbers by Friday 6th September.

It would be great if we could match - or even exceed - both the total number of runners and our fundraising efforts. Fundraising pages for the two charities have already been set up, but you are welcome to raise money for a separate charity if you’d prefer.
