Notices to Parents and Guardians

A message to all parents and guardians from Mr Chris Wain, Head of Futures

I started in post as ‘Head of Futures’ in April 2019, an exciting role which will include coordinating the delivery of careers advice and guidance for all year groups, to ensure pupils can access relevant support during their time at Shrewsbury School.

As part of this, I am working on a range of initiatives, events and activities that pupils (and where appropriate parents / guardians) will have access to, in order to complement the existing provision that is in place. These are likely to include, but are not limited to, employer seminars and conferences, mock interviews, industry visits, networking events, work shadowing and career mentoring programmes.

We are fortunate at the School to enjoy a range of contacts, both locally and nationally, via existing relationships and through the Salopian Network, but I am very aware that there is significant opportunity for development of this area. With that in mind, I would be grateful if you could let us know by completing a brief survey if you would be willing to aid the delivery of this provision in any way. I am very conscious that supporting events can mean taking time from your own busy schedules, so would like to genuinely stress my appreciation of any assistance you can provide.

The survey can be accessed and completed via the following link: Futures Department Parent Survey

Salopian Charity Postcard Art Exhibition and Sale, Saturday 21st September, 2.00 - 5.00pm

The Art Department invites all parents and friends to a special charity fundraising exhibition by Salopian artists on Saturday 21st September. It will feature original postcard-sized artworks by current and former Salopian artists, all of which will be on sale to raise funds for Shrewsbury House ('the Shewsy'), the School’s youth centre in Everton, Liverpool.

The exhibition takes place in the Art School and will include work by some former pupils who have gone on to achieve national and international fame in the art world – Charlie Adlard, Max Baccanello, Kit Oates and Timothy Morgan Owen – as well as work by local artists and by current pupils who may well achieve fame in the future!

Further details are included under 'Forthcoming Events' below.

Shrewsbury Half-Marathon: final call to join 'Team Shrewsbury School'

The Shrewsbury Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 6th October 2019. In each of the past six years, a large team of runners from the Shrewsbury School community has taken part - including pupils, teaching staff, support staff, Old Salopians and parents. We currently have 38 people running as 'Team Shrewsbury School 2019', but we would be delighted to have more. This year we will be focusing our fundraising efforts on the Andrew Grene Foundation and Medic Malawi.

You can enter the event through the following link: https://www.shrewsburyhalf.co.uk/. When entering, please add ‘Shrewsbury School’ as the team name. Once you have registered, please let Kate Evason know so we can keep track of entries (marketing@shrewsbury.org.uk). Please also let Kate know your vest size (XS/S/M/L/XL). We will need to know final numbers by Monday 9th September.

For further details and links to the fundraising pages for the two charities, please see 'Forthcoming Events' below.
