The annual St Cecilia Concerts are a firm favourite in the Shrewsbury Music calendar - a chance to hear some fabulous orchestral and choral music performed by pupils at Shrewsbury School and the Shrewsbury School Community Choir.
There is an absolute feast of music this year, including the first movement of Dvorak’s wonderful New World Symphony, Beethoven’s dark and dramatic Egmont Overture, and Arutiunian’s Trumpet Concerto performed by Frank Coughlan (SH U6) with the School’s Symphony Orchestra.
Also in the programme is a radiantly serene and uplifting work by one of the UK’s leading current choral composers: Requiem by Bob Chilcott will be sung by the School’s Chapel and Community Choirs, accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra, with soloists Saffron Milner (M U6), Tabitha Winkley (G 5) and Dan Norman (OS).
Also in the programme will be Leonard Bernstein’s vibrant Dances from West Side Story, some wonderful singing by the Chamber Choir of Billy Joel and others, and part of Grieg’s evergreen Holberg Suite for Strings.
FREE admission with a retiring collection in aid of Shrewsbury School Charities.
Tickets will be available on the door or can be ordered online in advance via www.ticketsource.co.uk/shrewsburyschool.
