Shrewsbury School

British Cadet Rifle Team selection

Wednesday 29 January 2020

Congratulations to Ollie Taylor (R L6), who has been selected for the British Cadet Rifle Team and will tour with them to Canada during the Easter Holidays.

The team has a long and distinguished history dating back to 1910, when the first exchange visits of cadet teams from Australia, New Zealand, Canada and England took place. During the 1930s, the British cadet team came to be known as the ‘Athelings’ – a name that has stuck. The word is of Anglo-Saxon origin and means a ‘young noble’, usually the heir to a ruler or leader.

During the summer holidays, Ollie competed with the Royal Shrewsbury School Shooting Club at the prestigious Ashburton Shield Competition at Bisley, where he won a silver medal in the Ashburton Four and was awarded the McQueen Trophy for the highest achievement in Sniper Fire over 300 yards.
