British Consul General hosts reception for Shrewsbury School International Hong Kong

Thursday 15 March 2018

Families of children enrolled for Shrewsbury International School Hong Kong were joined last week by members of the Governing Body of Shrewsbury School UK, members of the school team, the Friends of Shrewsbury School Hong Kong, Old Salopians and other key school supporters at an evening cocktail reception held at the British Consulate in Hong Kong.

Founding families of Shrewsbury International School Hong Kong were joined by members of the Governing Body of Shrewsbury School UK, including Sir David Lees, alongside members of the school team, five members of the Friends of Shrewsbury School Hong Kong (FSSHK), a group of Old Salopians and other key school supporters.

The guests were greeted by Stephen Holroyd, Director of Schools for Shrewsbury International Asia, who explained to the assembled company that Ben Keeling, Headmaster of Shrewsbury Hong Kong, was unable to be present because he was about to become the proud father of his first child. All guests shared the joy and excitement of this piece of good news.

Sir David Lees, Chairman of the Board of Governors of Shrewsbury School Hong Kong and former Chair of Governors at Shrewsbury UK, spoke about the importance of school governance and the quality of education shared between the family of schools. "Drawing from my own personal experience of sending my own children and now six grandchildren to Shrewsbury School in the UK, I can speak first-hand about the rich educational heritage offered to families seeking a renowned British education here in Hong Kong." He was also proud to point out the importance the School places on the education, well-being and security of all pupils.

British Consul General, Mr Andy Heyn OBE, also talked about the importance of ensuring quality British education in Hong Kong for ambitious families.

"We are delighted to see Shrewsbury open its doors here in Hong Kong, bringing with it more than 465 years of tradition in academic excellence. It was for this reason that we supported Shrewsbury School in their successful bid to win the license let by the Education Bureau back in 2014."

The founding parents of Shrewsbury International School Hong Kong were excited and proud to meet all the other guests and to be joining the Shrewsbury family.

The five Friends of Shrewsbury Hong Kong Committee members (pictured below) shared their experiences as parents of pupils at Shrewsbury School UK and their appreciation of the excellence of both the School’s educational provision and its care for their children.

Shrewsbury International School Honk Kong will open in August 2018 in tandem with a new Shrewsbury Bangkok City Campus, both offering specialist primary education.
