Charlie Duckworth (O LVI) meets the Prime Minister

Friday 6 June 2014

Charlie explains how this came about...

"I have always had a keen interest in politics and since the 2010 election I have been active in the Conservative Party. Last summer I had the chance to work for Jake Berry MP at Parliament and gained an understanding of how this great institution works. I had the opportunity to meet many well-known politicians and I had dinner with Ken Clarke, and enjoyed a beer with the Prime Minister and the Chairman of the Party, Grant Shapps!

“Since the summer I have tried to become even more involved in the Party and I am trying to help the growth of Conservative Future in East Lancashire. I had the chance to meet Boris Johnson at a party over Easter and was impressed by his leadership qualities.

"Given the disastrous results in the European and local elections, I thought that the party needed my help! After finishing at National Schools Regatta, the day before on the Bank Holiday Sunday, I travelled to Newark to help with campaigning for the by-election. I had the chance to talk with the PM for a second time - but this time with only leaflets in my hand! I also got to meet the Transport Minister, Patrick McLoughlin.

“It was a successful day's campaigning with a positive message on the doorstep. I wish Robert Jenrick the best of luck on polling day."
