Congratulations to Ed Barnard, who not only spent half term on an England U19 batting camp in Sri Lanka but has also signed a two-year contract with Worcestershire County Cricket Club. He will service the county on a Summer Scholarship during the 2014 season, before switching to a full contract for the 2015 season.
Last winter, as we reported on this website, Ed played for the England Under-19 team in South Africa, hitting an unbeaten 114 in the first Test and taking the winning catch to be named man of the match.
In Worcestershire CC’s press release announcing the signing of both Ed and his fellow Worcestershire Academy player Joe Clarke, Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes said, “Both Ed and Joe have tremendous potential to make a big impact here at New Road. We can proudly say they are products of our Academy system and are presently experiencing an England U19 batting camp in Sri Lanka. I am aware the England age group coaches also hold them both in high regard and they have bright futures ahead of them.”
