Cricket: Sixth Former Issy selected for ECB’s ‘The Hundred’ competition

Friday 31 January 2020

Issy Wong’s cricket career at a national level has taken another exciting step forward with her selection among the first wave of signings for England Cricket Board’s inaugural ‘The Hundred’ competition.

Eight women’s teams will compete in The Hundred, a new 100-ball competition which starts on 22nd July and culminates in Finals Day on 14th August.

Each team is permitted up to six ‘marquee’ players (i.e. those with an England Women’s contract or overseas stars) in their 15-strong squad, with the rest made up of domestic players.

Issy (G U6) is among the first players in the country to be selected for the competition and one of eight players selected so far for Birmingham Phoenix.

Last summer, Issy was contracted to Southern Vipers and finished the season with a Women’s Kia Super League runners-up medal (see report). She has also been selected for the England Women’s Academy.
