Fencing: British Youth Fencing Championships – U18 Boys’ Sabre

Ross Viljoen (PH LVI) competed in the Under-18 Boys’ Sabre competition in the British Youth Fencing Championships on Sunday 4th May, finishing in an impressive 13th place.

Held at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, the event attracted 34 competitors, from across the British Isles, all of whom had qualified from their regional events.

Ross won four out of six poule fights and won his first direct elimination fight, 15 hits to 6 hits against David Nehaul (Yorkshire). He lost his second direct elimination 15 hits to 8 hits against Simon Dacey, who went on to finish 3rd.

Excellent fencing from Ross throughout the day in this his first year of competition in this age group.
