Fencing: Four Salopians qualify for the British Youth Championship Finals

Tuesday 28 January 2014

Held at Packwood Haugh School on Sunday 26th January, the West Midlands British Youth Championship Qualifiers Epée attracted fencers from schools and colleges from throughout the region.

In the Under-18 Boys’ Epée Shrewsbury had outstanding success, with Arthur Cheng (SH LVI) collecting a silver medal and Jeff Pun (O LVI) collecting a bronze medal. Arthur lost in the final to William Gallimore-Tallen (Four of Clubs) 15-10.

In the under-16 boys’ event Scott Walker (M) finished in eighth place, losing only by the odd hit, which put him out of reaching the final four and a medal position.

Arthur and Jeff now go forward to the British Youth Championship Finals to be held in Sheffield in May.

On 19th January, Marco Lee (I V) won a bronze medal in the British Youth Championship Qualifiers Under-18 Boys’ Foil event and Scott Reynolds (Rb V) finished in fifth place. Marco and Scott both qualified for the British Youth Championship Finals in May.

The West Midlands BYC Qualifiers Sabre event takes place in March.
