Fives: Success and Development at Ladies' Championships at Eton

Thursday 28 February 2013

Six pairs of girls travelled to Eton on Sunday to take part in the Ladies' Championships.  This is the fourth year that Salopian girls have taken part in this national competition, in which they are competing against university and adult teams (including a couple of Old Salopians now playing for Oxford).  Our first pair made Salopian history by making it through to the semi-finals.

Rosie Parr & Hannah Pritchard won all their group matches and qualified for the quarter finals. They won their quarter final 2-1 against a strong adult pair, but then lost 0-2 in the semis against the Top Seeds. This was the best performance by a Girls Pair in our four year playing history here, and an outstanding achievement.

Holly Free & Cressida Adams won two of their group games and then went on to win Plate B, beating three pairs along the way.

Jo Cull & Charlotte Harris also qualified for Plate B. The pair played 5 matches and competed well throughout; they won their last match, and only lost 10-12 to the eventual winners, Holly and Cressida.

Isabelle Turney & Charlotte Perkins played better and better with every match and won the three team Plate C.

Gaby Byrne & Poppy Beckett improved with every match, showing great tenacity and skill.

Teresa Fawcett Wood & Emma Pring also played better and better with every match, despite Emma having the least preparation of all those playing.

A full competion report is on the FivesOnline website.
