Girls' Fives pairs beat Oxford University

Wednesday 21 November 2018

A comprehensive victory against the strongest university team in the country bodes well for the Lent Term Fives Competitions and the National Schools at Shrewsbury in March.

Our top two pairs of Sophia Breese, Lizzie Ware, Emma Graham and Katie Oswald took time out from the major Michaelmas Term sports to play Oxford University Top IV pairs.

The matches took place at Summer Fields Prep School on their indoor courts. (A blessing, given the bitter conditions.)

Shrewsbury won seven out of eight matches, with the only loss coming after the match reached step all (11-11).

Breese & Ware lost to Oxford Pair 1      0-1 (Step All, Lost 14-11)
Breese & Ware beat Oxford Pair 2        1-0
Breese & Ware beat Oxford Pair 3        2-0

Graham & Oswald beat Oxford Pair 1   1-0
Graham & Oswald beat Oxford Pair 2   1-0
Graham & Oswald beat Oxford Pair 4   2-0

Overall Result: Shrewsbury won 7-1

Many thanks to Alex Aldous for arranging the fixture and Gwenan Davies for supporting them on court and throughout the day.
