Girls U15 cricket team win Lady Taverners Indoor Cricket Area Qualifiers

Friday 15 February 2019

As National Runners-Up for the last two years in the Lady Taverners’ Indoor Cricket Tournament, Shrewsbury School’s U15 girls cricket team are delighted to have made a strong start in this year’s campaign.

This year the girls just had one school to beat to progress through to the County Finals next month.

Playing at home in the Neville Cardus Cricket Centre on Tuesday 12th February, this year’s U15 captain, Harriet Shuker, led from the top of the batting order along with Izzy Morris.

In no time at all, Harriet posted 15 runs which meant that she had to retire, bringing Lisette Barden to the crease who then followed suit. After Shrewsbury’s allocated 8 overs were up, the girls had posted a total of 112 for Mary Webb School to chase.

As in recent years, there were a few Third Form girls playing up a year and making their debut in this competition. Among them was Scarlet Whittal, who bowled especially well and took 3 wickets after some ruthless bowling from Harriet and Lisette.

Mary Webb were bowled out for 45 in 5.5 overs.

This was a good performance all round and we now look forward to the County Finals on Friday 22nd March.
