The new Shrewsbury School musical: ‘Rebecca - The Drowned Bride’

Friday 2 February 2018

Film Fellow David Clifford was given a special back-stage pass to film the Technical Rehearsal of the eagerly anticipated new Shrewsbury School musical based on Daphne du Maurier's novel 'Rebecca' and chat to the cast and crew.

Shrewsbury School has a long and proud history of creating original musical theatre. Previous productions have toured to Edinburgh and London, attracting rave reviews and a coveted Fringe First award. So when Helen Brown and John Moore (Directors of Drama and Music respectively) announced last year that they were embarking on the creation of a brand new musical based on ‘Rebecca’, an excited buzz rapidly spread throughout the Salopian community.

Last week, 80 children attending the Shrewsbury Prep School Musical Theatre Workshop were delighted to be given the chance not only to hear but also learn and perform three of the songs. This weekend, audiences will be flocking to the Ashton Theatre to see a semi-staged ‘workshop’ production of the full show. And in August, the cast and crew will take up residence in Edinburgh for a week of performances at the Fringe Festival.
