A new housemaster is appointed for School House

Hugo BestermanHugo Besterman is appointed Housemaster of School House, to succeed Giles Bell when he steps down as Housemaster in September 2013.

Hugo is currently Director of Sixth Form and a member of the Senior Leadership Team at The Red Maids’ School in Bristol. Before that, he gained experience of boarding and as a Head of Faculty at both Clifton College and Abingdon School.

Hugo gained a First in Biological Anthropology at Downing College, Cambridge, and he also represented the university at football and was president of the university surf club.  He is a keen musician and plays the cello, piano (Grade 8 Distinction), piano accordion and percussion, and is a published author in the public understanding of science.

Hugo is married to Caroline, herself a Cambridge Classics graduate, and they have three young daughters: Francia (7), Poppy (5) and Jasmine (1).

The Besterman familyOn his appointment, Hugo wrote “I am delighted to be joining Shrewsbury School and feel extremely privileged to be taking up the post of Housemaster in such a great boarding house. My family and I are very excited about the move to Shrewsbury and are thoroughly looking forward to meeting more of the staff, students and parents over the coming months.”

Hugo will be joining our Biology Faculty when he starts here in September.
