Shrewsbury School

The Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering

Friday 20 November 2020

We are calling all creative young designers of Shrewsbury School who might want to be part of one of the world's biggest engineering prizes.

@QEPrize have launched their #CreatetheTrophy competition, for ages 14-24 around the world to design a trophy to be presented by royalty.

This is an opportunity to enter an international competition open to young people to design the trophy for the £1 million Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering, regarded as the world’s most prestigious engineering accolade.

Last year the trophy was presented to Dr Bradford Parkinson, Professor James Spilker, Hugo Freuhauf and Richard Schwartz for their work creating the first truly global, satellite-based positioning system – GPS.

The winner every two years receives a 3-D replica of his trophy design and a high-end laptop computer.

Last year’s winner was invited to see the trophy made to his design being presented to the prize winners in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

Miss Perkins states that:

‘Imagination is all around you, the ability to show creativity and the ability to design is not limited by age, I hope this inspires more young creatives to enter into the world of design and engineering and take up this opportunity.’

Create the Trophy is currently open for entries, until the closing date on 21 December 2020 at 12.00 GMT
