Richard Hillary Essay Competition

Friday 31 May 2019

Fittingly Air Marshal Sir Michael Simmons (DB 50-55), one of the architects of the Richard Hillary Essay Medal Competition in memory of RAF fighter pilot and author of The Last Enemy, Richard Hillary (Ch 1931-37), visited the School to meet this year’s winner, Anna Cowan (MSH), and the two runners-up, Lara Gabbitas (EDH) and Alexander Sparkes (I).

The essay prize on a single word topic (this year 'challenge') was judged by Graham Hoyland, adventurer, mountaineer and author of Last Hours on Everest about the fatal ascent of George Mallory and Sandy Irvine (WHM 16-21).
