Despite the very early start and a chilly day, it was great for the boys and girls to get their first race of 2018 under their belts – and, for the J14s, their first race ever.
Although there was little competition for the youngest members of RSSBC, it was a perfect opportunity for them to showcase what they had learnt in the Michaelmas Term. The J14 girls proved their strength, beating King’s Ely by 8 seconds in a time of 6:18, while the boys competed in an RSSBC showdown, with the winning crew setting a time of 6:13.
The J15 boys raced in two events, J15 4+ and J15 8+, providing each crew member with the opportunity to race twice across the 2000m course.
The J15 4+ event was another all-RSSBC affair, which was won by O. Ryley (M) (cox), H. Compston (R), R. Shepherd-Cross (O), S. Yuen (Ch), N. Dee (G).
The J15 8+ event provided the opportunity for the boys to race other schools in matched crews. Both crews set impressive times of 6:58 and 7:00 to take 1st and 2nd place, a great start to the term.
The J14s were fantastic on the day and the coaches were very impressed by the level of maturity and ability they showed. We hope all the parents who came to watch enjoyed themselves and we look forward to seeing many more along the river bank soon.
