The last time I visited Bromsgrove, one very eminent individual was in-charge of their cross country – his name was Mr P Greetham . This time however, it was clear that the only body in charge was the RSSH. The Junior race was dominated by Charlie Tait-Harris who led from start to finish (beating a very talented field including a number of county champions), with Charlie Davis coming in 3rd, Jake Samuel 4th, Harry Adair 5th and Nicky Davis (of piano fame) 12th. This was a tremendous effort by the team.
In the Senior race Ed Mallet was once again victorious winning by the length of a rugby, hockey and football pitch (Bromsgrove seem to play everything at once), with Rory Fraser working his way up into second and Seb Blake hanging onto 3rd. Ralph Wade sprinted to a very creditable 9th, and our fourth counter was Toby Landsdell in 12th. A returning Tim Atkins was 17th, Freddie Hill 19th, James Humpish 30th, Toby Harvey Scholes 33rd, Sam Watts 34th, the improving Mark Huang 43rd, Sean Sawyer 45th, and Chris Papaioannou 46th (which was still in the top half of the field). It really was another great day for the Hunt, and indeed for Shrewsbury School as we clearly are more than a match for the likes of the big mixed boarding schools of the Midlands like Oundle, Uppingham, Worksop, Nottingham and Welbeck College. Long may it continue. Floreat Salopia.
