Runners-Up Medal for Shrewsbury pair in U15 Girls National Schools Fives Championships

Saturday 16 February 2019

Shrewsbury School maintained the very high standard they have set for the past five years in the Girls EFA U15 National School Championships, held at Eton on Wednesday 6th February.

Particular congratulations to Issy Morris and Harriet Shuker, who made the final.

In losing three sets by 4, 3 and 3 points against Berkhamsted 1st Pair (who have won the title for the past three years), the Shrewsbury pair pushed the opponents as hard as they could have done and showed huge improvements in the all-round match play.

They were presented with their Runners-Up Medals by George Thomason, who is an Old Salopian and now Master-in-Charge of Fives at Eton College.

Their excellent achievement was closely followed by Lisette Barden & Lauren Taylor, who made the semi-final with an excellent, but very close, 2-1 win over Highgate 1.

Pair 3 Ashleigh Pegge & Annie Cox made it to the quarter-final, as did Pair 4 Phoebe Watkins and Issy Hatton.

Our other Fourth Form pairs Poppy Stephens & Faye Monk and Kate Brunskill & Third Former Annabel Thompstone played very well, competing in eight matches each with a 50% win margin.

Our two Third Form pairs Scarlett Gibson & Jemima Dee and Scarlett Whittall & Rachel Ellis made huge advances during the day and both won plate competitions. They look forward to the U14 Championships after half term.
