Salopians come 3rd in the country at International Maths Competition

Tuesday 27 April 2021

The Maths competition is an annual event that sees pupils solving 30 mathematics problems against other school pupils.

The Purple Comet! Math Meet is a free, annual, international, online, team, mathematics competition designed for middle and high school students that has been held every year since 2003.

This year over 12,000 students from over 50 countries from Afghanistan to Vietnam competed – and the Shrewsbury School team came first in their class and third in the entire country.

Teams compete by submitting solutions to a list of 30 mathematics problems. There is a ten-day window during which teams may compete choosing a start time most convenient for them. The problems range in difficulty from fairly easy to extremely challenging.

Well done to Ivan Y (SH, U6), Richard L (O, U6), Eustacia F(M, L6), Yuhan W (MSH, L6) and Saku N (O, L6) who performed outstandingly at the “just for fun” maths mental workout. This year’s official results can be found here.
