We are absolutely delighted that seven of our current Upper Sixth pupils have managed to secure conditional offers to study Medicine next year.
Our successful candidates have had to go through an extremely competitive selection process, needing a strong academic track record, and having to perform well in the stringent UKCAT entrance exam common to most UK medical schools. At interview they had to demonstrate a commitment to the vocation of medicine through a portfolio of caring and voluntary work, as well as being able to describe experiences in clinical settings.
As members of the School’s Medical Society, they attended many talks and seminars to prepare for the realities and rigors of this most demanding but rewarding of professions.
Along with their likely destinations, our future medics are:
Tom Cousins (PH) to Birmingham
Tom Fitzpatrick (R) to Southampton
Kate Harrison (EDH) to Edinburgh
Will Hunter (Rt) to Newcastle
Kiran Morjaria (I) to Leeds
Emerald Storey (MSH) to Cardiff
Howard Stringer (PH) to Birmingham
We wish them all every success in getting their required A grades at A Level, and beyond.
One of our leavers from last year, Jack Houghton (I), has also secured a place to start studying Medicine at Southampton this year, thus bringing our 2011 total of pupils with places at Medical School to seven as well.
