Shrewsbury School begins cricket season with four centuries

Thursday 29 April 2021

The cricket season got off to a flying start with four centuries from our Salopians.

Jack H (Rb, IV), Izzy M (MSH, L6) and Harry C (PH, L6) have shone on the cricket field in the first two weeks of the summer, with all three scoring centuries for the school in the space of just five days.

Fourth former Jack's 106 came while opening the batting for the 1st XI against Warwickshire, Izzy smashed 103 not out for the Girl's 1st XI against Rugby, while Harry hit exactly 100 against Newcastle-under-Lyme for the u17's.

Harry said: “It felt amazing to hit a senior century for Shrewsbury School, especially in a cup competition. I'm looking forward to this season because I feel like we have a strong chance to win lots of silverware as a team and as a school across both 1XI teams.”

Izzy added: “When I knew I had reached 100 runs I felt proud of myself and happy to be in the team that helped to get me there. I am very excited to see what the rest of the season brings!”

Gwenan Davies, Head of Girl's cricket said: "Izzy has the ability to score quickly at the top of the order, and on her day can take the game away from any bowling attack. Her explosive knock was another example of her talent as an incredibly clean striker of a ball."

Adam Shantry, Cricket Professional, added: "A century is a fine achievement at any level of cricket, and to have three of our players reach this landmark so early in the season is especially pleasing. We look forward to seeing all our young cricketers develop the habit of contributing match defining scores on a regular basis.”

  • Upper 6th Former JJ fielding (Rt) has become the latest Salopian to add to the list of centuries, scoring his first ton of the season as Shrewsbury post 196-4 from their 30 overs at Wrekin College
