Sidney-Darwin Dash and Quarter-Mile Challenge 2019

Thursday 13 June 2019

A large crowd gathered on Top Common after Chapel on Sunday 9th June to cheer on the runners in the finals of the Inter-House Sidney-Darwin Dash and Quarter-Mile Challenge.

Full results will be published on the website shortly, but highlights included:

Lillian Wilcox (EDH) doing the double and winning the Senior Girls’ Sidney-Darwin Dash and Quarter-Mile Challenge – the first time this feat has been achieved.

Toby Pegge (PH) retaining his Senior Boys’ Quarter-Mile Challenge title from last year.

Matt Brinkley making it a Porthill double by winning the Senior Boys’ Sidney-Darwin Dash in a thrilling photo finish.

Jonny Price (I) almost doing the double, having dominated the Junior Boys’ Quarter-Mile Challenge from the start. He was pipped on the line by Henry Lees (Rb) in the Junior Boys’ Sidney-Darwin Dash.

A Grove double in the Junior Girls’ races: Irina Liniger (G) was impressive in the Junior Girls’ Sidney-Darwin Dash, and Jemima Gee (G) pipped Eva Hall (G) to the line to win the Quarter-Mile Challenge.

Well done to all runners.

Thank you to Dr Case for the photos and to Film Fellow David Clifford for capturing the high-octane atmosphere of the event on film. It's introduced by Abi Watkinson (MSH U6) and Tom Jackson (R L6), who explain the history of the races:
