Tetrathlete Oscar achieves top national ranking

Wednesday 18 September 2019

Congratulations to Oscar Hamilton-Russell (R L6), whose combined skills in horsemanship, running, swimming and shooting have earned him the top Tetrathlon Intermediates ranking in the country.

Oscar, who has competed regularly for the Royal Shrewsbury School Hunt ever since winning the Third Form Race in his first week at the School, and has also been a key member of the Shrewsbury School Equestrian team, competed in two tetrathlons during the summer holidays. Both were organised by the Pony Club: the National Intermediate Championships, which took place over four days at Offchurch Bury in Warwickshire; and the International Senior Tetrathlon, held in Kelso, Scotland.

In the National Intermediates, Oscar was part of the mixed Wheatland Hunt team, who finished as national champions, with Oscar claiming second place in the Individual Boys’ competition.

In the International Championships, Oscar finished in fourth place in the Individuals, winning the cross-country riding event and coming second in the running.

The National Tetrathlon Ranking List for 2019, announced last week, was calculated by using the aggretate scores from both Championships. Oscar's tremendous performances in both competitions earned him the Number 1 ranking.
