This prestigious competition is attracts musicians from across the UK, all of whom are at Grade 8 or above in their chosen instruments. It is a major achievement to make it through to the finals, and quite astounding to get three finalists from one school in the same year.
The Finals take place on Saturday 23rd March at Gregynog near Newtown, Wales, the home of the annual Gregynog Music Festival and part of the University of Wales. Our pupils will be competing during the day for their appropriate category 'Gregynog Player of the Year' award – brass, strings and woodwind – and each category winner will receive £500.
Category winners will go on to perform in the evening concert, in which they will be competing for the 'Gregynog Young Musician of the Year' award, for which the winner will receive £3,000 in prize money.
The concert is at 7pm at Gregynog Hall, Tregynon, Newtown, SY16 3PW. Please see www.gregynogymc.co.uk for more information.
