The West of England Challenge Vase is regarded as the premier trophy for Open Coxed Fours in provincial rowing. It has been an event for more than 125 years and is raced in Worcester, Hereford, Bath, Gloucester and Shrewsbury in rotation.
What joy that not only was the race fought in Shrewsbury on May 13, but that a Sabrina scratch four should be the happy victors!
Many congratulations to Charlie Clarke, Cox (O 2009-14), Al Hagger, Stroke (PH 1986-91), Rob Morgan, No.3 (R 2007-12), James Stuart, No. 2 (O 1988-93) and Henry Thomas, Bow (Ch 2011-16).
The fabulous four (we should say five, surely?) were awarded the Willian IV vase, made in Birmingham in 1834, which will duly be enscribed - as well as a souvenir tankard.
