The School seeks to appoint a dynamic and experienced individual to establish an holistic strategy for Careers guidance at Shrewsbury School. Working alongside teaching staff and Heads of Faculty, the successful candidate will combine insights into the graduate market-place and understanding of broader themes within the world of employment with a detailed comprehension of the opportunities and challenges for teenagers in senior education.
Working closely with the Deputy Head (Academic) the candidate will have the opportunity to design and instigate an embedded programme of education for Futures Guidance throughout the school as well as innovating in the area of employability skills (including leadership, communication and self-management). The Head of Futures will support teachers and tutors in delivering these programmes, carefully managing the flow of information to pupils and their parents. They will also have the opportunity to offer advice to the Senior Leadership team on relevant programmes and policy.
The successful candidate will be a skilled communicator who is quickly able to grasp the dynamic and character of Shrewsbury School as well as the wider Salopian community and bring this into effective conjunction with the shifting landscape of employment and professional development. They will have the ability to generate and maintain links with industrial and commercial enterprises on a national and international scale and will also play a fundamental role in managing the expectations and understanding of pupils, parents and Old Salopians alike.
Ideally you will have:
- Experience of the business or professional world, with a possible background in selection, interviewing and recruitment.
- Excellent organisational, time management and influencing skills
- Extensive experience of working with a range of learners, in ways which have raised aspirations, motivation and behaviour and a strong commitment to the ethos at Shrewsbury School.
- Ability to plan and deliver large scale successful events requiring extensive liaison with internal and external key stakeholders.
This is a full-time, term-time position with 6 additional working weeks in the school holidays. We would welcome applications from candidates that are in a similar role or teachers who have a specialism / interest in careers.
