Congratulations to all of our Upper Sixth leavers who received their A Level results today, with the vast majority being awarded top grades. We are thrilled that the hard work and dedication of this year’s cohort has seen them taking up places at world-class universities across the globe.

Two thirds of students will be taking up places at Russell Group universities, which include 10 offers from Oxford and Cambridge and over 20 students will be taking up places at international universities from Italy to North America, including two who head off to Harvard.

Jeremy G, who will take up his offer to study Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at Trinity College Cambridge, states:

“Cambridge has always been my goal, even before coming to Shrewsbury.

“Academic life at Shrewsbury is fantastic. I was helped by my chemistry and physics teachers - they've always made me enjoy those subjects, and I’ve gone on to combine them into my course at university.

“Boarding has set me up well for living university life. I’ve become more independent here, and I know how I study best on my own and with other people.”

Katie H, progressing to Temple University, Philadelphia, comments:

“I chose Temple because the staff reminded me of Shrewsbury. The facilities and opportunities are incredible. Boarding at Shrewsbury has set me up well, I’ve become more independent. It’s a bigger step to going to the US but I feel ready for it.

“Shrewsbury was really helpful in my process of going to America. I’m excited to meet people from all different parts of the world.”

In addition to university destinations a further six pupils will also be heading to some of the UK’s top and most prestigious conservatoires and Drama Schools; an incredible feat for Shrewsbury students and their dedication continues as these highly talented Salopians will be heading to perform at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival with their original musical ‘A Traitor’s Wife’.

Leo Winkley, Shrewsbury School Headmaster, comments:

“We are thrilled that the Shrewsbury School class of 2024 has achieved such a strong set of A Level results, opening doors to a diverse array of destinations in the UK and around the globe.  While the majority now head for Russell Group universities in the UK, many are off to study at top colleges in the US and Canada, others to world-leading creative arts and music conservatoires and to various excellent employment-based routes too.

“Our Higher Education and Futures Team have done a superb job, along with the extraordinary commitment of the teaching, pastoral, co-curricular and support staff, in delivering whole person education the Salopian Way.

“We are so proud of our 2024 leavers.  They go with our warmest good wishes to pursue bright futures far and wide.”

This success is a crowning achievement in what has been a Golden Year at Shrewsbury, where our students have excelled in both academic and co-curricular activities, from student breaking records in the national Physics Olympiad and receiving prestigious STEM awards to our Boys’ 1st XI Football team being crowned National English Schools Champions and our 1st XI Cricket team winning The Cricket Paper National Cup for a second consecutive year. All of this contributes to Shrewsbury being ranked in the top 1% of schools for sport in School Sport Magazine Top 200 sporting schools of 2023.

We have also been delighted to be nominated for the fourth consecutive year for the Tes Boarding School of the Year Award and to be named Best Public School in the Tatler Schools Awards 2024, to be listed as one of ‘The 25 Best UK Senior Schools in 2024’ in Spear’s Magazine and to be shortlisted for the Best Use of Education Technology in the 2024 Independent School of the Year Awards.

Our students' remarkable achievements in their results and their successful progression to leading global destinations reflect the commitment and excellence of our Salopians, supported by our outstanding teachers, and the distinctiveness of a Shrewsbury education.

We couldn’t be prouder of the Class of 2024 as they embark on their next chapter.
