Shrewsbury Dialogues
The Shrewsbury Dialogues programme aims to engage speakers from an exciting range of academic disciplines to share their expertise with Shrewsbury School and our wider community.
The dialogue as a literary genre has historically aimed to clarify our understanding of difficult concepts, expose our assumptions and, in the Socratic style, promote wisdom and the pursuit of truth. Today, the notion of ‘dialogue’ suggests an open and authentic discussion, which moves beyond the desire to reach a definitive conclusion or express a viewpoint.
Our aim is to deepen our own understanding by learning from one another, in an environment characterised by intellectual inquiry, respect and equality.
The Dialogues format is much more interactive than the traditional lecture approach and most importantly allows the audience to influence the nature of the conversation, leading to exchanges that engages pupils from all years.
