Old Salopian Richard Hudson was born and grew up in Hale, Cheshire and attended St Ambrose College, Hale Barns, before moving on to Shrewsbury School. He went on to read Classics and Law at Cambridge University (Magdalene College), qualified as a barrister (Middle Temple) and spent the first part of his career as a legal journalist and publisher working for Butterworths (now LexisNexis). In 1988 he was appointed Managing Director of Jordan Publishing in Bristol. During this time he was made a Freeman of the City of London and a Liveryman of the Stationers’ Company. In 2003 he decided to return to his Salopian roots and has been Housemaster of Churchill's Hall since 2007. He has no further career aspirations!
Richard teaches English, looks after pupils applying to study Law at university and is a keen mountaineer, trombonist and singer, heavily involved in the School's music. He is also Editor of the School magazine The Salopian, umpires house cricket and plays recreational fives.

Meet Churchill's Hall new Housemaster from September 2020:
John Wright will take over as Housemaster of Churchill’s Hall from Richard Hudson at the start of the Michaelmas Term 2020. He was brought up in Norfolk, and attended Gresham’s School, before heading to Bristol University to study Geography. Starting his career in Finance in London, John decided to move into teaching in 2010. He taught Geography at Winchester College for five years, while also being an Assistant Housemaster, coaching football, hockey and tennis, and running an annual Lower Sixth trip to India. He moved to Whitgift School in Croydon for one year before returning to Winchester to be Head of the Geography Department.
John met his wife Emily at Winchester College when she arrived as a new History teacher after starting her career at Wycombe Abbey. They married in 2016 and now have two children: Kit (2017) and Honor (2019). They love nothing more than getting the whole family outdoors – no matter the weather – and going on long walks. They also enjoy cooking, gardening and the South Devon coast.
