Drama forms an important part of the extra-curricular programme at Shrewsbury. From the outset, pupils are encouraged to take part in a variety of exciting and stimulating theatre projects, including events devised and directed by the students themselves. As well as a thriving programme of house plays, each year sees two major productions at school level: for juniors, a full-scale production during the final week of the Summer term, and for seniors, the main School Play in the Michaelmas or Lent term.
Additionally we aim to host at least one professional visiting company or artist in our studio theatre during the Michaelmas and Summer terms. Theatre visits are frequent and popular.
Shrewsbury prides itself on the high standard of its productions, and students are given the opportunity to perform in professional venues at the Edinburgh Festival, the Royal Opera House and the Royal College of Music. In recent years, the School has produced a number of original musicals, which have toured to Edinburgh and London, attracting rave reviews and a coveted Fringe First award.
