Head of Art

Full-time from September 2025

Shrewsbury seeks to appoint a full-time leader of the Art Faculty from September 2025. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent teaching at all levels in the School and will have energy and enthusiasm to lead Art and other creative disciplines (e.g. photography).

The post could suit a current subject leader or an experienced teacher seeking to widen their experience in one of the country’s leading boarding schools. Candidates should be willing to participate in the School’s thriving pastoral and co-curricular programmes.

Art and Photography are both popular subjects at Shrewsbury. With a high proportion of pupils achieving top grades at both GCSE and A Level, and a good number going on to pursue creative courses after the Upper Sixth (Year 13). The Faculty has recently achieved national recognition, having been shortlisted for the TES ‘creativity’ award in 2020. 

Shrewsbury has its own salary scale and may be able to provide accommodation.

Teacher of Geography

Full-time from September 2025 

Shrewsbury seeks to appoint a full-time teacher of Geography to teach at all levels in the School in a successful, supportive and collaborative Faculty. The post would be ideal for someone new to the profession looking to gain initial experience, key skills and knowledge in one of the country’s leading boarding schools or for an experienced qualified teacher. The successful candidate should be willing to participate in the School’s thriving pastoral and co-curricular programmes. 

Geography is a popular subject throughout the School, with all pupils taking an introductory course in Year 9 focussing on Climate Change and Economic Development, using China as a primary case study. Typically, over half the year group continue to take the OCR GCSE course, with similarly healthy numbers going on to take the OCR A Level course. The subject enjoys a strong reputation in the School, with excellent Public Examination results, and a number of leavers each year going on to pursue geographical studies at university, including at Oxford and Cambridge.

The ability to teach A Level Economics may be an advantage and the successful candidate should be willing to participate in the School’s thriving pastoral and co-curricular programmes. 

Shrewsbury was one of the pioneers of A Level Business (formerly Business Studies) in the 1970s. In the years since then the School has built up a strong reputation for success. Business is currently only taught at A Level and is one of our most popular subjects, with typically over sixty students in each year group choosing A Level Business. The subject has excellent Public Examination results and Business is the most popular degree choice amongst school leavers, with a large number going on to study in both the UK and abroad.

Economics enjoys a strong reputation at Shrewsbury and is an increasingly popular subject at A Level with typically 90 – 100 students across the Lower and Upper Sixth. Pupils take the AQA A Level course and achieve excellent Public Examination results, with a number of leavers each year going on to pursue Economics-related disciplines at university, including Oxford, Cambridge, LSE and other UK and international universities.

Payroll & Pensions Manager

Permanent, Full Time, Competitive Salary

Shrewsbury School is seeking to appoint an experienced and committed Payroll & Pensions Manager to manage multiple payrolls, deliver operational pensions administration and track and monitor the staffing establishments for the Shrewsbury family of Schools.

The successful candidate should have a recognised CIPP qualification with substantial experience of managing large and multiple payrolls. Knowledge of defined contribution pension schemes, and statutory returns is essential. The post will work closely with both the Finance and HR teams and will line manager our Payroll Officer. The post comes with an excellent package, and offers an exciting opportunity to join a unique family of schools providing world class education.

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Food Service Assistant to join our vibrant catering team. You will play a vital role in providing breakfast, lunch, supper, and morning and afternoon snacks for our students and staff and ensuring that our dining services continue to be a pillar of our school community.
