Pupils at Shrewsbury consistently achieve exceptionally strong results placing us as one of the leading schools in the UK.

2025 was another outstanding year for Shrewsbury pupils; 87% progressed to their first-choice university destinations, with 65% securing places at Russell Group universities including Exeter, UCL and Durham. Eight pupils will study in North America, several with scholarships, including one as a Robertson Scholar at the University of North Carolina and Duke University.

The Spectator named Shrewsbury School in their "Oxbridge Files" which lists the top 80 institutions in the UK for student progression to Oxford and Cambridge universities. Shrewsbury is one of the 33 independent schools that are featured in the list.

Academic excellence is achieved through a wide-ranging curriculum that uncovers and encourages a genuine love of learning, alongside inspirational teaching that challenges each pupil to strive for her or his own personal best.


A Levels and Destinations

In 2025, over 85% of students progressed to their first-choice university destinations with 82% of Salopians enrolling in a Global Top 200 university. 77% of pupils achieved A Level grades A* - B with 39 pupils achieving straight A* - A.

There are currently 15 Salopians studying at Oxbridge. Pupils who choose to apply to Oxford and Cambridge are supported through a programme of enrichment lessons which include extension material, admissions exam practice, and mock interviews. All university applicants are supported by our Futures Department as well as subject-specific teachers and tutors.

An increasing number of Salopians are choosing to study in top North American universities, with 10 students currently in Ivy League and Ivy Plus universities. Many also secure prestigious scholarships, including:

  • Boston University - Rowing Scholarship
  • University of Maryland - Track Scholarship
  • University of North Carolina and Duke University - Robertson Scholarship

Our pupils are fully supported by a vastly experienced and dynamic teaching staff alongside our Futures Department in preparing them for when they leave Shrewsbury.


(I)GCSEs

In 2025, 60% of grades were awarded 9-7 at IGCSE. Across all entries, 616 grade 9/8’s were awarded to pupils and our five-year average of 9-8 grades awarded to pupils is 44% and for 9-7 grades is 60%. The majority of pupils progress from Fifth Form to our Sixth Form, where our curriculum is based around A Level qualifications.

The Salopian Way is rich in heritage and tradition, but modern and forward-looking in outlook.

It is an education for life.


Public examination results will be published once the 2025 Review of Marking has been completed, ensuring accuracy and fairness. As a school, we focus on providing the fullest picture of our pupils’  whole person achievements rather than actively participating in newspaper and online league tables.
