Sarah is a historian of 20th century America and Assistant Professor at Texas State University. Her research is focused on immigration, race and rights in the United States and she is particularly interested in the intersection of politics, public policy and social movements.

She is the author of The Walls Within (Princeton University Press, 2021), which traces the struggle of politicians, activists, interest groups, communities and courts to define the rights of immigrants in the United States after the passage of the Hart-Celler Act of 1965.

Sarah worked in the White House during the Obama administration as senior policy analyst for the Vice President, Joe Biden, and worked as a consultant on the Obama for America Vice- Presidential debate preparation in 2008 and 2012. In her talk she will share some important insights on American politics ahead of the US election on the 5th of November.
