Through a comprehensive Tutorial, PSD and Futures programme, Third and Fourth Form pupils will have multiple opportunities to explore a range of careers options, reflect upon and improve their employability skills.
The Futures Department at Shrewsbury School is dedicated to equipping students with the skills and resources needed for successful career planning.
Through a variety of workshops, networking events, and personalised guidance, students are empowered to explore their interests, develop key employability skills, and make informed decisions about their future pathways, whether through university, apprenticeships, or the workforce. This comprehensive support helps students navigate their options with confidence, ensuring they are well-prepared for life beyond Shrewsbury.
Life at Shrewsbury is so busy and full of diverse activities that it can be hard to imagine ever leaving, let alone planning for a future that might still seem a way off.
Our online networking platform, Salopian Connect, is now also available for parents to access, completely free of charge. The platform currently has over 3000 members and is a great way to connect with Salopians across the globe, expand your own professional network, advertise employment positions and share information about your business.
The principles of the Futures programme are three-fold:
Through a comprehensive Tutorial, PSD and Futures programme, Third and Fourth Form pupils will have multiple opportunities to explore a range of careers options, reflect upon and improve their employability skills.
Fifth Form pupils will access one to one guidance interviews with qualified professionals to form an action plan to inform post-16 choices, to develop their understanding of their future options. They will also undertake a range of psychometric tests to aid self-awareness, as well as attending relevant events.
Sixth Form pupils will access a range of support from the Futures Department to enable them to compete for positions that are reflective of their post 18 plans. These are anticipated to include places at top Global Universities, Degree Apprenticeships, employment roles and meaningful gap year programmes.
As the world of work and recruitment processes continue to evolve, it is vital that Futures Department provides students with insights about what to expect in future application processes. This is why we are proud to run a Mock Assessment Centre Challenge, on site, to support our Lower Sixth as they navigated through a series of recruitment-based challenges.
Throughout the academic year the Futures Team organises a range of events to support pupils with their planning. Please see a snapshot of the activities below:

Shrewsbury has successfully achieved the national Quality in Careers Standard using the Career Mark approach.
As England’s dedicated national quality award, the Quality in Careers Standard – through external assessment – uniquely accredits the four components of the CEIAG:
Shrewsbury was delighted to be awarded this accreditation and expresses enormous gratitude to the OS Community, the parent body and friends of Shrewsbury School who have supported various initiatives during recent academic years. These have varied from careers insight talks, to concepts for new events (such as our inaugural ‘Enterprising Futures Conference’), mock interviews, work experience placements, university panels and much more.
