RSSH have fun ‘hashing’ in the Shropshire hills

Members of the Royal Shrewsbury School Hunt (RSSH) spent an afternoon this week on a ‘hash run’ in the beautiful Shropshire countryside.
A hash run involves following a trail of flour set by the hounds - in this case Mr David and our Huntsman and Huntswoman Jack K (SH, UVI) and Sophia C (MSH, UVI). Their job was to lay a trail across hill and dale for the hounds, some thirty members of the hunt, to follow. The fun part is that the hounds have no idea of the route and have to battle with false trails and trying to locate the floured route amongst woodland, paths, sheep, cow pats and all the other challenges of the countryside.
The pupils and staff really enjoyed the 10-kilometre challenge, helped by a beautiful warm spring day and a route that took them across some of the finest countryside in Shropshire. The hash run started and finished at Whitton Hall, home to an Old Salopian family and friends of the school, who laid on a lavish tea at the end of the run to sustain our tired runners.
Thank you to all involved and to both Kate Boscawen and Kate David and the wider Halliday family for hosting us so well.
