OS Golfing Society

Shrewsbury School crest

Founded in 1928, the Old Salopian Golfing Society exists to bring Salopian golfers together to play at some of the finest courses in the UK.

Visit GolfAtlas.com to savour the distinction of the courses where we play: Blackwell, Luffness New, Hoylake, Huntercombe, Muirfield, New Zealand, North Berwick, Tandridge, Trentham, Woburn, Worfield & Worplesdon.

These meetings provide Salopian golfers with a proper golfing challenge and a great opportunity to meet up with old friends and to make new contacts.

Events include an annual national knockout tournament for the Campion Trophy and the Halford Hewitt Cup – the highlight of the independent schools’ golfing calendar.

OS Golf The Halford Hewitt Cup

The Halford Hewitt Cup team is selected from our finest golfers, under the captaincy of Andy Pollock. This is a prestigious and highly competitive tournament played between 64 leading independent schools. Our gifted golfers of riper years compete against other schools at West Hill GC, in the G L Mellin Tournament (for over 55s) and the Bunny Millard (for over 75s), winning the G L Mellin Salver in 2022 under the captaincy of Peter Worth.

Meetings are also heavily subsidised for Salopians less than 30 years of age. OSGS supports golf at the Schools in cooperation with Adam Duncan the Master in charge of golf.

OS Golf Campion Trophy

The Campion Trophy is open to all members and allows them to meet other Salopian golfers and play on their courses. This year's draw has taken place

OS Golf Membership

The Society welcomes golfers with a handicap of 28 or less. Mothers and Fathers of Salopians, Members of Staff and of the Governing Body are also warmly encouraged to join the Society and play in our meetings. We are an inclusive society.

The annual subscription fee is only £25, and an OSGS tie is available from the Hon Sec at £20.

Membership of the Society entitles those OSGS golfers working in the London area to apply for special membership of The Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club at Deal. This is a privilege that many younger golfers based in London have taken up.

Members will be informed of all fixture dates and Society news in January each year.
