The Old Salopian Yacht Club was founded in 2008 to further interest in sailing amongst alumni of the school. We are an informal, mixed ability club with room for all levels of sailing and social expertise. We always welcome new members, experienced or otherwise.
We currently hold one main sailing event each year - the Boarding Schools Sailing Association Arrow Trophy, which takes place at Cowes every October. The weekend combines short but exciting races in the Solent with a lively social programme. Where there is demand we arrange other events (for example taking part in J80 racing at Queen Mary Reservoir).
We also offer a crew matching service for Salopian boat owners seeking crew members – both for racing or long passages.
The OSYC annual drinks/dinner and (short!) AGM is usually held in the Spring, to prepare crew members for the social rigours of the Arrow weekend.
We have been especially successful, in recent years, in attracting younger members to the Arrow crew most years half the crew tends to be under 35, but overall it is a broad mix of ages from recent leavers to those that attended as far back as the 60s.
We are always keen to hear from any Old Salopian sailors who would like to take part in future events. Experienced racers (dinghy or offshore) are of course especially welcome but we always have room for keen young sailors who want to experience big boat racing for the first time.
