Queen Elizabeth Hall (Queen's)
We are delighted to announce that our fifth girls’ house, opened in September 2023, is called Queen Elizabeth Hall (Queen’s).
Construction began during Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s Jubilee year as we honoured her extraordinary personal qualities and contribution over her seventy years on the throne.
One of the earliest official visits made by Her Late Majesty was to Shrewsbury in 1952, as the School marked its 400th birthday. Queen Elizabeth toured the School and opened the Queen’s Terrace, in front of the Main School Building. Seventy years on, we mark our deepest respect and gratitude for Her Late Majesty’s dignified leadership and loyal service.

Meet the Housemistress - Sally Pearson
Sally joined Shrewsbury School in September 2021 as Housemistress Elect and English teacher. Prior to this, she was Assistant Head of English at Winchester College where she also coached rowing and ran the Debating Society. She has been a Housemistress before, having run a girls’ boarding house at The Purcell School for Young Musicians where she spent four years hiding the fact that she is a pianist. At Purcell, she completed the BSA qualification in Pastoral Care and Boarding Management and was an IGCSE and A-level examiner. She began her career at Bradfield College where she was Assistant Housemistress of a boys’ boarding house and ran the Polo Club.
She has a first-class degree in English Literature from York and an MA in twentieth-century literature from UCL. Interested in music and literature, in her spare time she has completed research on Benjamin Britten’s literary operas. A former county athlete, Sally is also a keen sportswoman and has been getting to know Shrewsbury and the surrounding area by taking part in local 10K races.
Her husband, David, was Director of Music at Winchester College and is a former HMC Headmaster. Sally and David made their move to Shropshire with their two dogs: Rupert, a black labrador, and Ivy, a golden retriever.
“I feel really privileged to be Housemistress of a house that is named after someone who has demonstrated such extraordinary dedication, care and fortitude. I look forward to continuing to meet prospective families across the next few months - and, of course, to welcoming our first group of pupils in September 2023.”

Introducing Queen's
Queen’s is home to up to 70 boarding and day girls.
The House features a double-height house hall overlooking the picturesque town of Shrewsbury and the meandering River Severn.
Queen Elizabeth Hall has been designed by Old Salopian architect Adrian James, with the secure garden featuring an ancient cedar tree as a focal point.
Queen’s is Green – it is the first ‘no gas’ boarding house at Shrewsbury, and features heat pump heating.
Our pupil-led Eco Committee was extensively involved in this development, ensuring that we maintain the green heart of our school site.
