Earlier this term the Art Department welcomed Ben Street (virtually), who gave a fascinating and timely talk on Kara Walker’s striking work Fons Americanus, currently on display in Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall.

We are pleased to announce that Ben will return on Monday March 8th to give a second talk. This time he will explore Expressionism, the early 20th century art movement most commonly associated with Weimar Germany and Scandinavian artists such as Edvard Munch, whose ubiquitous painting The Scream has become a poster boy for the movement.

Ben is an art historian and writer. He has been an educator and lecturer at many museums, including the National Gallery, Tate and Dulwich Picture Gallery, and is the author of several books on art. His forthcoming book is out this April, a children’s book, illustrated by Jay Wright, called How To Be An Art Rebel. He has also contributed to programmes about art for the BBC. His website is www.benstreet.co.uk.

In October 2020 Ben Street’s previous book 200 Words to Help You Talk About Art was published. This is an excellent resource, which provides clear and concise explanations of key terms used in History of Art, and of which all our Sixth Form History of Art students have a copy.

Please contact Stewart Harrison: [email protected] for the Zoom link.
