As outlined in last week’s newsletter, thirty-five Third & Fourth Form Salopians undertook this year’s Junior Essay Prize – a prestigious annual competition challenging our top essayists to respond to an unseen, challenging question in an hour. The results of the competition are now in and this year’s winner has been announced!
Many congratulations to Lily C (EDH, III) for her engaging, wide-ranging and evocative response to the question “What is History?” Lily will be presented with her award alongside other academic prize-winners at Speech Day on July 2nd.
Five other essays were deservedly awarded ‘highly commended’ status after a really excellent submissions across a range of differing academic disciplines.. Well done to the following entries:
- Chloe L (MSH, III)
- Edward K (Rb, IV)
- Charlotte K (M, III)
- Violet R, (EDH, III)
- Holly M (M, III)
The prize is a great example of our pupils going beyond their various courses and developing the ability to think creatively about academic disciplines under timed pressure.
