Bumper number of Salopians headed stateside for US Sporting Scholarships
Following news earlier this year about some of our talented athletes gaining scholarships to US colleges, we were delighted that a bumper crop of our Upper Sixth will be heading to the States for university this year to join the rosters on a range of sports.
Rowing has been one of the main sports in recent years to send Salopians over the Atlantic and indeed Livy E (EDH) will be heading to Temple University to join their impressive programme. It has been particularly pleasing that Kate R (EDH) secured a Hockey scholarship to the University of Maine and Rory M-O'B (Ph) a golf scholarship to the University of South Carolina.
In addition, the strength of Shrewsbury’s football programme has seen three of the 1st XI secure scholarships to universities nationwide. This year’s Captain of Football Harry C (Ph) will go to Lincoln Memorial in Tennessee, Joe A (I) will lap up the sun in California’s Silicon Valley at Menlo College and Henry M (Ph) will join Seton Hall in New Jersey. Last year’s Captain of Football Finn Sansom also heads to the University of North Carolina on a Morehead Cain scholarship, awarded in part for his prowess on the pitch.
The numbers applying to US and other international universities continues to rise and we look forward to the next American Universities Conference, which will take place on Wednesday 14th September from 4-6pm, with experts speaking about sports scholarships, admissions testing, making the right choice, and universities in Canada. Further details will be available soon.
