U17 Boys' Cricket Team through to Finals of Cricket Paper Cup
The U17 boys' team have reached the final of the Cricket Paper National U17 Cup.
After their thrilling victory at Sedbergh in the quarter final, a high-quality Trent College side were their opposition on Tuesday. After being put in to bat, Shrewsbury batted superbly to post 246-5 from their 35 overs.
Captain Rhys L (Rt, LVI) led from the front with a sparkling 99 from just 69 balls, with 8 fours and four sixes. Trent were bowled out inside 21 overs for 106, with Guy B (I, LVI) taking 4-28.
Shrewsbury will therefore compete for the title of National Champions in September. The run to the final has been even more impressive given the absence of three of the first choice eleven, and the fact that six of the team are still U16.
It’s been a successful year for boys’ cricket with some impressive achievements on the pitch, both for Shrewsbury and in County Cricket:
- The 1stXI has recorded notable wins over Worcestershire Academy, Warwickshire U19s, Sedbergh and Repton, with 5 of the first choice XI being in the 5th Form, and one in the 4th

- Rhys L (Rt, LVI) has scored over 1100 runs at an average of 55, and has represented Middlesex 2ndXI on several occasions
