Shrewsbury
Tennis players make Shrewsbury history by winning first mixed doubles match
Last weekend saw the first ever mixed doubles tennis match for Shrewsbury School against Malvern College for our Under 18A and B teams.
The Under 18A 1st pair of Misha C (SH, LVI) and Peyton B (G, LVI) produced two excellent performances against strong opposition to win both of their matches and put Shrewsbury in a commanding position in the tie. The Under 18A 2nd pair of Tom D (PH, V) and Kate W (M, LVI) whilst losing a tight first match, held their nerve to win a tight second match in a third set tiebreak (7-4). This was an excellent performance by both pairs leading to a 3-1 victory for the Under 18A team.
It was also fantastic to see the Under 18B mixed doubles team consisting of Hamish G (PH, V), Emily C (G, LVI), Giles H (I, V) and Eva H (G, LVI) competing as well. Both pairs played some good doubles in extremely windy conditions with Hamish and Emily winning their first match but eventually losing the overall tie 3-1. Elsewhere, the Senior Boys 2nd VI played in extremely tight fixture which finished 2-2, the Under 15 girls lost overall whilst the Under 15 boys remain undefeated for the season winning 9-0.
Overall, it was a fantastic weekend of tennis and great to see the school’s first ever mixed doubles teams play and win! We now look forward to upcoming fixtures against Repton and then a final mixed fixture against Bromsgrove to finish the term.
