During his visit, he laid a stone commemorating the moving of the old School Wall to its current site between School House and Rigg’s Hall.
The Wall was brought up stone by stone from the Old Schools and was situated along the then boundary of the Site, running through the present Biology Building. On the wall are carved the names of boys who were distinguished on the games field. The earliest date is 1859. This tradition died in the 1960s.
