Annual Third Form Race sees new record set by MSH pupil
On Saturday, 134 pupils took place in the annual Third Form Race which sees our youngest Salopians run a one-and-a-half mile figure-of-eight course around the school site.
This year, the race was won by Will R (O) and Amelia Blackledge (MSH), along with overall house winners Radbrook (boys) and The Grove (girls).
Will’s time of 7:58.5 was a stellar performance and only one second outside the race record over this course, set back in 2012 by Freddie Huxley-Fielding (R, 2016).
Amelia B winning time of 9:46 was the fastest girls’ time over this course since 2016, when Francesca Harris (EDH, 2021) took the win.
Master in charge of the Hunt, Ian Howarth, said: “Johnnie T (Ch) ran extremely well over the first three-quarters of the race, looking solid in second place, but an unfortunate wrong-turning put him out of the running.
“There was an excellent battle for second among the boys with Zac W (Rb) and Leon B (Rt) crossing the line almost together.
“Having eight boys securing times of nine minutes or under suggests real depth of talent in this year group.
“The Grove saw a huge turnaround of fortunes since last year, when they were 4th – this time they were winners, and Radbrook secured their second victory in a row in this race, with an even more impressive team score this time around – 47 points, with six runners in the top 14 places.
“There was a great team spirit, with runners pushing hard right the way through the pack.”
Well done to all pupils who completed the course.
