Sports Fourth Form

Over the first four days of the April holiday the J15s stayed at Love2Stay in Shrewsbury for their rowing training camp.

The 33 Fourth Form pupils got the opportunity to train in small boats at Bomere Pool and in crew boats on the Severn. It was great to have the lead Senior coaches coaching alongside the J15 coaches to share their expertise and signpost the pathway for the rower’s development in the years ahead. The rowers loved the accommodation at Love2Stay in the Safari Lodges, where the highlight was undoubtedly the use of the hot tubs. Despite fairly chilly nights, the rowers’ spirits remained high throughout the four days and all those in attendance made fantastic progress on the water. On the Friday afternoon the boys and girls were mixed up and split into three groups for some activities at Love2Stay. Tackling the assault course and trying their hand at paddle boarding and archery provided a great opportunity to bond and relax as a squad.

On the last day of the camp the rowers were split into four even crews to test themselves with some five-hundred-meter match races in eights in front of the boathouse. There was some great racing from all four crews which provided ideal exposure to what they can expect from racing in the Summer Term. It was great to end the camp with a barbeque for the rowers and their families.
